Celebrate International Women’s Day with Skin Care Products Empowering Women

Refreshed May 4, 2021

In 1908, the seeds of International Women’s Day were planted when 15,000 women marched through New York City for reduced working hours, better pay and the right to vote. The first official National Women’s Day march, led by the Socialist Party of America, took place a year later on February 28th. IWD moved to March 8th in 1913 and was recognized by the United Nations in 1975.

Now over a century later, we are still fighting for higher wages, equal pay, opportunities, and treatment. More than ever, women are using a collective and powerful voice in protest. We are stronger together. Let’s continue to smash the glass!

Today, EP is shining a light on 2 skincare brands that are dedicated to improving the lives of women.

Wabisabi Botanicals

Luxury whole plant skincare empowering women

Every month, Wabisabi Botanical invests 10% of proceeds into Kiva micro-loans for women. Since 2018, they’ve helped fund micro-loans for 25 women around the world.

Kiva is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 and based in San Francisco, with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty.

These micro-loans empower women with the opportunity and capital they need to pursue their dreams.

As loans are repaid, they reinvest those funds back into micro-loans for women, so the same dollar touches more lives!

As a PETA Leaping Bunny Certified company, the ingredients they source and their final product is always cruelty-free and vegan. Most of their ingredients are produced partially or entirely by women.

They’ve partnered up with One Tree Planted to plant one tree for every product sold in 2021 and beyond.

Yellow Beauty

Simplifying skin care with organic turmeric & vegan ingredients

Part of Yellow Beauty’s mission is to end child marriage. In Bangladesh, the legal age of marriage is 18 years old. But up to 71% of girls are already married when they celebrate this birthday. In fact, more than one-fifth of girls in Bangladesh find themselves married before the age of 15 –the highest rate in the world. That’s roughly 12 million girls every year. It’s a vicious cycle fueled by generations of poverty, absence of economic opportunity, and a lack of access to education.

Yellow Beauty donates 10% of profits to help end child marriage so girls can stay girls through Plan International Canada's Hatibandha Project.

The majority of girls drop out of elementary school. Without a basic education, these girls have little chance of becoming independent women who can support themselves and their families, meaning many are forced to marry as young as age 12.
