Dream Inspiration from Entrepreneur and Designer Charlie McEvoy
Refreshed May 17, 2021
Are you working on your dreams? Need a little push or some inspiration? Well, you found this post at the perfect time!
I interviewed Charlie McEvoy, founder, and designer of Plant Faced, a badass vegan streetwear company.
First, let’s start this story from the beginning. In October of 2017, I made the lifestyle change to eat vegan. Since then, I’ve searched for vegan fashion, beauty, and health products. If not vegan, then cruelty-free.
I’m always researching to provide you with insight or help from each new post topic. I decided to search for a few vegan streetwear brands. Ethical practices and vegan fashion. However, I was honestly disappointed with the options until I found Plant Faced.
The designs are inspired, intricate, and fashionable. I personally wish I could afford every design on the site. 😅 But you know, bills and shit.
I’ll get there! ✨💫
About Plant Faced:
Cruelty-free & vegan
Ethical manufacturing practices
Almost all their clothes are Fairtrade, Fair Wear or WRAP certified
1 tree planted for every item sold
Uses eco-conscious, organic or plant-based materials wherever possible
Hand screen printed using eco-friendly water-based inks
Why water-based inks?
The majority of printed garments you buy use plastisol inks which contain PVC and phthalates which are harmful to the environment. The inks we use contain no toxic chemicals and are also free from lead and other heavy metals.
They do not contain ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFCs and HCFCs aromatic hydrocarbons or any volatile solvents, and as the inks are water-based the screens can be cleaned with water rather than solvents. The water-based ink we use is of course also 100% vegan!
I reached out to Charlie who is just as cool as her brand.
Here is the interview:
What inspired you to create Plant Faced?
Ever since I was very young, I'd always wanted to have my own business & build some kind of empire. I was also selling everything & anything, but as I grew older I knew I needed an idea that would also have a social mission and contribute to a greater good in this world.
When I finally made the transition to going vegan, I was looking around for clothing that could spread this new message I was so passionate about to the rest of the world, but couldn't really find many options to my taste or style.
My skills are in design so when this idea came to me, it was like a trifecta of my interests in fashion, design & business. Plus, something which would hopefully help make the world a better & more cruelty-free place, all merging together.
What is your favorite Plant Faced design so far?
It would have to be the Plant Based Kanji Tee or the Plant Life Long Sleeve - an equal tie!
Who are the women or the one woman who inspires you?
One of my best friends also runs a successful e-commerce brand for vintage clothing called The Black Market. We are so blessed to live one block away from each other. So we are constantly bouncing ideas off each other & sharing our trials & tribulations!
What one piece of advice do you have for women?
You can literally achieve whatever you dream. If you want it enough & are willing to work for it & enjoy the process. It sounds cheesy, but on this journey, I've found truly anything is possible. 😉 Hang in & hold on tight!
